Kathputli colony- The street performer’s tales

 

Kathputli Colony, situated at the Shadipur Depot area, home to the largest community of street performers in the world. Every narrow, meandering lane houses various kinds of artists: Acrobats, Puppeteers, Jugglers, Magicians, Animal trainers etc. This walk through Kathputli colony promises to be as thought provoking as it will be visually stimulating. Walk with world renowned madaari-magician Ishamuddin Khan, who is globally recognised among the top 20 magicians in the world and discover the realities of everyday life of street performers, the challenges to the vernacular performing arts in India and the complex social dynamics that anchor this nomadic community to this settlement. The walk will end with a special magic performance on a roof top.

Ishamudin Khan is an Indian Madari magician ranked among the world’s 20 top magicians.  He is also the founding member of ISPAT.

ISPAT is focussed on advocacy and creating a platform for reviving street performance on the street. Identify and help open up public spaces within Delhi regular street performances. ISPAT helps create awareness in public, lobby with stakeholders including civil authorities for the same. We are developing a process collaboratively to ensure safe and effective manner in which these performers may be recognized, schedules drawn, security maintained etc.

Tips: Carry a bottle of Water. Wear close shoes. All performances have been selected and paid for, please do not ask other local artists for performances.
